Video shows sailors attacked in Turkey

I was stationed at Incirlik for my first assignment and have nothing but good memories of my travels there.
The question I have is why would they have shore leave there at this point in time? Last year they sent all of the dependents home from Incirlik making it a hardship tour now, and last I heard everyone is confined to the base.

When I was in Thailand a group of about 3 to 5 hundred students marched on the Base Protesting and sat in the street outside the main gate. So they closed the gates to where if you were off base you could come on but you couldn't go off. After about two hours all the Shop keepers, Bar Owners, Taxi drivers and others (Hookers) who were losing money because GIs couldn't get off base came in and beat the tar out of the Protesters and ran them off. Bingo gates opened, business as usual.
