Thank you my friend TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on August 1, 1914 the Great War began as allies [central powers of Germany and Turkey sided with Austro-Hungarian Empire in the wake of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophia in Sarajevo.] The Triple The triple entente allies of Great Britain [and the British commonwealth], Belgium and France aligned with Russia who was allied with Serbia.
I highly recommend "The Guns of August" written by Barbara W. Tuchman who is a wonderful historian and captivating author.

“The Guns Of August a captivating tome (iMHo ) ... I had been a voracious reader before and leading up to the time of an Service connected accident from which. I was involved in ‘77. When I looked for historical material I tried to read it around the month it happened in in history. Being there of course is out of the sit-rep.. I found the bbc series somewhat informative but dry .. very little excitement leading up to the killing time( to get the viewers immersed into the story.. feel “into the moment” ... “boom-boom !”... or however it may have went (slash-stab?”)...then one goes and reads about it and can view better in their mind the stabbing or shoot’g ... gruesome? Yes but more surrealistic !

Great history share and probably some question on a modern history test.
