Here's the thing...most are under the mistaken assumption Marconi actually invented radio...in fact, nothing could be further from the truth, Dr.Mahlon Loomis, a dentist from upstate NY, actually did it first, along with another lesser known guy just after the Civil War, Congress granted him a patent, I've seen a copy of it, at the behest of a Congressional member who'd been amazed by it. The IEEE has had numerous articles on his research, and that of the other guy for years, he did it using kits as antennae, flying over the Allegheny Mou twins in Pennsylvania, using ground current to complete a circuit, half RF energy, half ground current. When he'd tap out Morse code, he'd watch a galvanometer needle dip or risez I forget which, indicating transmission, that he at he was able to send Morse quite comprehensibly, even though the idea was, obviously, woefully premature, he did it just after the Civil War ended, that I know for a fact. Now, what isn't terribly known was how he actually managed to work out the principles of RF propagation, and design of an antenna from first principles, there's been a good deal of effort devoted to trying to reconstruct exactly how he did it, unlike the Wright brothers with a steerable glider by warping wings, which they quite carefully documented, let me send this....

Great share. How different our world would be without radio and wireless signals
