Welcome Russia into the Western World? Does Putin fear Trump more than he feared Obama? I think he does and this makes Democrats nervous. The reality is that Trump will do what he thinks is in America's best interest, the Democrats will do what they believe is in their best interest...ergo Muller.

I trust President Trump to do the right things, CMSgt (Join to see), but Putin has no fear of President Trump in the least.

SSG Skip Ledbetter - Ironic, isn't it?

"Trump’s policy toward the Kremlin should be evaluated on its merits. If you extract partisan politics and strip away justifiable distaste for his general conduct, what remains is arguably the most effective Russia policy since the end of the Cold War."

CMSgt (Join to see) - "Effective" in what sense? Russia - post Cold War - was a rudderless ship that we quickly ignored. Oh we paid them to look at their weapons (and we did) and we paid them to let us destroy their old weapons, but then what? Then someone discovered natural gas in huge-normous quantities and those friendly Germans stepped in while we were staying the course and mission accomplishing. Russia now provides the EU's gas with German pumping and it is selling most of its weaponry on the world market. Yeah...its to people that are killing us, but thats stupid politicking on our behalf. Putin's arming the enemy; he didn't make the enemy, right? Can't blame him cuz we're stupid-ass in the middle East.

So what need does America have to reign in Russia? Now thats not to give Obama a clear pass. Any pennies he spent Eastward were equally stupid as - again - Russia stopped being a threat on January 1st, 1990. So God only knows what President Obama (and indeed, secretary Clinton) felt needed done in Russia. Selling them uranium would only make sense if they had a safe/working nuclear program. And accusations of getting America to turn a blind eye on treaty totals don't work, unless you give the vote tampering to the democrats. In other words, "I'll tamper the election to see that Hilary wins." So as Hilary lost, then that means the Russians didn't tamper the election on Hilary's behalf.

Concur, Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen. He may be the President of Russia, but he’s KGB at heart, not a politician.

Absolutely, how he treats any opposition is pure KGB roots. No trust whatsoever concerning him.

I was active on the other side of those SALT talks at a base in North Dakota that was one of the first to host Soviet inspection teams. Part of the prep for those inspections was learning how to spot the tricks we expected from their team.

To not have any discussions with other major powers is foolish. One does however, have to be cautious

True, but they aren't your father's Russia. They are a shadow of their former self. Nukes keep enemies from exacting revenge and gas keeps them in Europe. And that gas is being pumped/tech'd by Germany. So Merkel is the true "leader" of Russia.
