I cannot imagine how bad that sucked, even events like the USS Cole would not be like being woke up in the middle of the night because your OOD decided to cut in front of a huge ship.

I knew the skipper of the Cole - DH School. He never recovered from it.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - He gave a speech to us at DH school... I think it was the only thing we really took from there. It was powerful, raw and unfettered. He told us everything that happened, and how to hopefully prevent that from happening to our crews. He relived it every class (DIVO to PCO) so that others hopefully didn't have to go through it.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - There exist items that might have helped, but don't dare mention them or you'll generate a flurry of threatening phone calls (as I discovered). Apparently we'd rather keep them safe and sound in warehouses.

7,000 US sailors were killed by Kamikaze's during WWII. They found a way to keep going and defeat the Japanese. People need to learn to put one foot in front of the other and move forward.

It is a huge betrayal of trust, and these sailors will be dealing with it for life.
