I have cruise books from each of my WesPac cruises and they all report stats from the deployment such as miles steamed, ports visited, eggs consumed, gallons of fuel burned etc. They also reported the number of 5” 38 rounds of ammunition fired. There were hundreds of small boys doing the same thing. It is a wonder Vietnam did not sink, it is so full of Navy ammo. SP5 Mark Kuzinski

This is an aerial shot of our 7th fleet. i was on the bridge of the USS Hancock CVA-19 as the other carriers & escorts were pulled in close for this one photo. The other two carriers were the USS Ranger CVA-61 & USS Coral Sea CVA-43. The fleet was extremely supportive and our squadrons often came down to low level to support our troops on the ground.
How close you ask?
After one recovery the aircraft were being loaded and patched up for the next launch one of our aircraft (a Skyhawk) had an arrow in its' fuselage fired from a cross bow. That is close.
We lost a lot of aircraft and pilots during Vietnam. I was always respectful of the pilots and the job they performed without reservation. I was very impressed with the one of the aircraft which launched from the decks of the HANCOCK was the EA1F. The Douglas A1 Skyraider ("Spad") is a highly maneuverable, propeller driven aircraft designed as a multipurpose attack bomber or utility aircraft.
To those who served and are now gone they will not ever be forgotten. Semper Fi _ Salute
