MSgt Cayle Harris We need to band together to make sure that all of these unwanted animals, err, um Rifles go to a good home. No rifle should be euthanized.

We need to organize and start a group called PETAF. People for the Ethical Treatment of Assault Rifles. Remember, guns are not born bad, it’s the owners that train them to do bad stuff.

Don't you just love it when top management of a business wants to make a "social statement" at the expense of the business?
I will remove the "Dick's Score Card" tag from my key ring, cut it in half, and send to CEO Edward Stack.
I will include a note concerning this statement and quote from the article:

Nickolas Cruz, the gunman who killed 17 people in Florida, mostly students, had purchased a shotgun at a Dick's store in November 2017, Stack said.
"It was not the gun, nor type of gun, he used in the shooting," Chairman and CEO Edward Stack wrote. "But it could have been. Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens."

So why not destroy all your shotguns in inventory, Mr. Stack? That makes as much sense. Hell's bells, Cruz “could have” racked up a higher body count using a shotgun on those students pouring out of classes into the hallway. Why not destroy them?
Then again, “it could have been” an even worse slaughter if Cruz had driven a truck through the massed students outside the buildings in response to the fire alarm.
The only thing you got right was “Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens." Therein lies the root of this tragedy, starting with “The Gun Free School Zone Act”.

I don't have any details, but Dick's Sporting Goods is listed on the NYSE. It is a family business that went public. The current CEO/COB (I hate to see those two offices combined in a public company) is the son of the founder.
I doubt if the family has given up a controlling interest in "their" corporation to the public investors. Mr. Stack is free to do as he damn well pleases, and will no doubt reply to any objections from "outsider stock-holders" that they are welcome to sell their stock if they disapprove of his financially stupid decision.
