Thanks, my friend Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that March 22 is the anniversary of the birth of senior officer of the Confederate States Army Braxton Bragg
He was USMA graduate number 895 and he graduated with the class of 1837
His civil war classmate flag officers included: MG Alexander Byrdie Dyer; CSA BG William Whann MacKall was Braxton Bragg's Chie of Staff in 1863; BG Eliakim Parker Scammon, CSA LTG Jubal Early, MG John Sedgewick, MG Joseph Hooker, CSA MG Arnold Jones, and CSA MG William Henry Talbott Walker.

Braxton Bragg was ranked number 6 in the list of CSA generals. At the time of his elevation to CSA General which was the date of the death of General Albert Sidney Johnston, he became the 5th highest ranking General officer in the CSA.
CSA Generals Name Date of Rank Nominated Rank Terminated
1st Samuel Cooper May 16, 1861 August 31, 1861 May 3, 1865 paroled
2nd Albert Sidney Johnston May 30, 1861 August 31, 1861 April 6, 1862 KIA, Shiloh

Fort Bragg was named in honor of Braxton Bragg similar to Fort Lee being named after Robert E Lee and Fort Hood being named at John Bell Hood.

Rest in peace Braxton Bragg

"Secrets of War Civil War Battle of Chattanooga
BATTLES FOR CHATTANOOGA: BACKGROUND
After the Confederate victory at Chickamauga in northwest Georgia in September 1863, the Union army retreated to the vital railroad junction of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Confederate General Braxton Bragg (1817-76) quickly laid siege to the city, cutting off access to Union supplies. In response, President Abraham Lincoln (1809-65) ordered Major General Ulysses S. Grant (1822-85) to Chattanooga. Grant, who arrived in October, soon refortified the city, opening up a desperately needed supply line, and began maneuvers to lift the siege."

MSG Dan Walther - Fort Bragg and Pope AFB were consolidated in an early BRAC to become a joint base. Fort Hood has been expanded over the years because there are no natural boundaries to stop it growing. As BRAC was enacted units were moved there or aligned there.

Nice share Cap. I wonder? Is this the man they named Fort Bragg after? I've never heard this story before. Thanks Capt Marty Hogan.

"Bully for Bragg,,, He's hell on retreat" that was the Rebel soldier's equivalent of later Americans and Soldiers saying " It don't mean nothing" and " Semper Fi Mac". Bragg often found himself outnumbered and put into untenable positions by the larger federal forces so he would pull his Army back from contact.
As could be expected, the average rebel never appreciated having to march for hours, prepare breastworks than be told to retreat and repeat over and over again. It got so anytime something shitty happened they would just use that phrase, or it was just something to say to break the silence.
