What were they taking? Maybe some ADD meds to keep them paying attention? I think we should start our own curling team. I think we should push the envelope while eating pizza and drinking beer DURING the match!

Maybe after a few beers, a punch up over the last slice of pizza, or over the kind of pizza ordered? The Curling punch up would make headlines with before and after pics of the mess those mean curlers are known for.
A Saturday Night Live skit?

CPT Jack Durish Really that they were doping? Yes. Really that I could compete after 2 pizzas and a 12 pack...maybe, but more likely that I would be asleep!

LT Brad McInnis, this from Wikipedia: "According to Jack Robertson, primary investigator of the Russian doping program on behalf of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) [he] has discovered that when a Russian athlete [reaches] the national level, he or she [has] no choice in the matter: [it is] either dope, or you’re done." Doping in Russian sports has a systemic nature. Russia has had 41 Olympic medals stripped for doping violations[citation needed] – the most of any country, four times the number of the runner-up, and more than a fourth of the global total. From 2011 to 2015, more than a thousand Russian competitors in various sports, including summer, winter, and Paralympic sports, benefited from a cover-up.[1][2][3][4]
