Thanks for letting us know TSgt Joe C. that on February 21, 1885 the 555-foot-high marble obelisk that was first proposed in 1783, that Pierre L’Enfant left room for it in his designs for the new U.S. capital which is now known simply as the Washington Monument, built in honor of America’s revolutionary hero and first president, was dedicated in Washington, D.C.
