Yeah. Screw those old bastards on Social Security if they turn their financial matters over to a family member, or a pro. If they choose not to handle their money, why should we let them have a gun. ;-) ;-) ;-)

SPC Brett Curry - Even being "mental" is wrong. It is not the same as "violent", or "criminal".
One of my undergrad roommates was a big, strapping Irishman. One night we were walking home (I forget which bar we were at) when he suddenly stopped, frozen in his tracks.
I asked what was wrong, and he managed to point and stammer "Cat!". I looked and saw a half-grown kitten walking across the sidewalk, about 5 yards away.
After the cat had crossed the street and was out of sight, he returned to normal, and explained he had ailurophobia, a morbid fear of cats.
That's a "mental" condition, but certainly not "violent" or "criminal".

CW3 Harvey K. - That is the same as the VA & Veterans kerfuffle over the "Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act." For exactly the same reasons. That is what I am pointing out. You should also note that both bills passed by about the same margins.

SSG Robert Webster - There is no doubt that they had seized upon equating financial ability and desire to manage one's personal finances as mental competence, and conflated that competence with fitness to purchase firearms.
In the words of "Sportin' Life" -- " It Ain't Necessarily So".
It's not too hard to guess who the "NO" votes were for both bills.

Clearly you have not followed this issue closely at all. This is a really a disingenuous article and can anyone tell me when the last time anyone that might have fallen into the SSA "mentally defective" category of people have committed a gun crime? The original order was an end around to the legislative process and would deny many innocent people a basic constitutional right. We need real solutions. This Obama policy punished innocent Americans. Many of who were simply guilt of being older.

There's just no pleasing anyone at all anymore. Even the liberal ACLU supported overturning that rule.
