What is Guantanamo Bay?

This is one of those situations where I can see both sides of the coin and partially agree with both sides. Yes, it is expensive to maintain inmates. What prison DOESN'T cost a lot of money per inmate? Yes, I do agree that some terrorists use it as a propaganda tool to recruit.....but this isn't the main piece they would use. I would venture to argue that Gitmo is more of a side note topic used in recruitment. But, I also agree that when terrorists, who by their very nature, disregard human rights with their actions surrender their rights and are to be kept in a location where they can do no harm anymore . Plus, if you really want to look it, they get better food/medical/housing than what they would in the field. And, if any US citizen is captured while they are fighting for a terrorist organization, then they fall under that same category of surrendering rights.

Anyone who sees a clearcut answer to this question simply isn't looking hard enough. We are in uncharted waters here, legally speaking. I have long advocated that non-state combatants be treated under the same laws which were applied to pirates on the high seas (also non-state combatants). Sadly, nobody listens to me, not even enough to tell me to shut up and go jump in a lake.

No American citizen should be imprisoned anywhere without due process, period!
