Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that January 14 is the anniversary of the birth of American Colonial general Benedict Arnold who fought for the American Continental Army, and later defected to the British Army.
While a Colonial General, he obtained command of the fortifications at West Point, New York( which after 1802 would become the site of the U.S. Military Academy that is my Alma Mater
West Point strategically overlooks the cliffs at the Hudson River 52 miles upriver from British-occupied New York City.
Sadly Benedict Arnold planned to surrender them to British forces. This plan was exposed in September 1780. He was commissioned into the British Army as a brigadier general.
In our nation Benedict Arnold is synonymous with traitor. Quisling is synonymous with traitor to many in Europe as Gut Fawkes is in the UK.

Thanks for sharing. I've read a couple of books on Arnold. He was a very troubled man as well as a traitor.
