Another winner, John!
Seems the Hun brought a knife to a gun fight. The saddest part of this story is the loss of German pilots to friendly fire simply because some tactician deemed it necessary not to inform the AA batteries of the plan. While it is bound to happen on occasion and not to dismiss the fact that the Allied forces benefitted greatly from this incident, this was avoidable and the loss of a troopers life at the hands of his own comrades has always angered me - no matter which side they are on. Wondering if silence was ordered by a staff officer or der Fuerer himself.
Have a great day, my friend.

I agree with you LTC Wayne Brandon . Such an appalling loss for such an operation . Sad that hush hush means lives loss.

SGT John " Mac " McConnell - I'm reminded here of the fate of the USS Indianapolis as it relates to the tragedy caused by incompetent leadership. The inability of the Navy to better control their plans and hit critical check points cost hundreds of lives through gross negligence. This was the primary reason for not seriously considering the Navy as a choice of service. I figured if they can't take better care of their men than that, I'm not interested. I enlisted in the Infantry instead where I found that most everybody looks out for each other for we are all we have. I never have regretted that decision.
