New in 2018: Could these two new fitness tests spell the end of the APFT?

I think its a laudable idea, but I have serious doubts these tests will be implemented. The initial outlay of costs would be prohibitive across the force, plus the potential for injury will vastly increase. If you use sloppy form for your pushups the repetition wont count; if you use sloppy form on a deadlift you can seriously injure yourself. What about alternate events for profiles? Some strategic units don't issue their Soldiers IOTVs (DISA, WHCA, Pentagon, etc.) and don't have land, equipment, or facilitates available to conduct a test like that. What then, are they exempt, or do they go TDY to another installation to conduct it? There's doctrine that would need to be published to ensure standards are universal, and with all the extra events you are looking at a significantly longer period to complete the test.
The APFT is outmoded and not the best measure for overall fitness, but its cheap and easy to administer-that's why we use it.

If that digital warrior is locked in a secure vault deep under Ft Meade, I think they can afford to carry around a few more pounds than the traditional 11B can't carry around on the front lines. I'm more a proponent for a job based standard over the one-size-fits-all currently employed.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - I think our need for the best hackers in the world is more important than the current Ht/Wt limit or PT standard. But then I have also seen plenty of 0311 grunts that were PT studs, but build like a brick wall so the Marine Corps showed them the door. It sucks to kick good people out because of a tape measure instead of actual performance, accomplishments, and potential.
I advocate to change the PT standards to a MOS specific gender neutral standard where highly demanding jobs have higher fitness standards than the less demanding jobs. But if the MOS calls for an XYZ level of fitness, then it doesn't matter the gender; everyone has to obtain that minimum XYZ level of fitness or they can't have the job.
Brienne of Tarth be infantry while Pyat Pree probably won't make the grade. Tyrion Lannister, Bran Stark, and Samwell Tarly probably cannot be in a line unit, but if they are outstanding hackers then maybe he can be NEC 9325/MOS 17C (cyber).
