Although Clara Barton is buried in Oxford, Massachusetts. located in Sherborn, MA and adjacent to the Massachusetts Woman Prison is a cemetery named after Her. This at one point that was the Sherborn Prison but is now Massachusetts Correctional institute in Framingham, MA and still a woman's prison. Clara Barton had done a lot of work with the Woman inmates during Her lifetime. The section of Sherborn where the prison is located was acquired by Framingham but the cemetery remained in Sherborn. I drove by that prison often as a member of the Sherborn Police Department while on patrol.

Thanks for letting us know that Christmas Day is the anniversary of the birth of pioneering nurse Clarissa "Clara" Harlowe Barton who founded the American Red Cross.
She learned much from the effort of Florence Nightingale who ministered to the soldiers of the Crimean War. Since Florence Nightingale pioneered as woman nurse, Clara was able to leverage that in our Civil War.
Clara Barton advocated many aspects of care for the wounded and ill in the Civil War.
Rest in peace Clara Barton.
