The problem with modern electronics is, when they start to go squirrelly you can't bang the side and get them working again for a while a la old tube TV's when a vacuum tube got loose.

Love those things, so easy to find a faulty one and replace it, then back on line. From the diode to the heptode. Nothing like using a signal generator and a scope to signal trace and identify a bad component.
