Omg. They lied to us every day, and still do. the only difference is that the Press had more integrity then.

That would be an interesting feat since the T-28 was a trainer and not fitted with guns or bomb racks, although there is one in the Museum of Military History in Indianapolis that was fitted with .50 cal. gun pods and 2.75" FFAR rocket pods. But that was done before it was put on display. The RVAF did outfit their T-28's with racks to carry external ordnance and a T-28 that was impounded by the NVAF when a Thai national flying for the RVAF defected and landed in North Vietnam. They reworked the Aircraft and it became the first Fighter for North Vietnam. BUT Once the US realized how well it could loiter on target areas it started to modify it, Even though the North American's may have been modified in country, the Fairchild AT-28D were North American T-28D's Modified as an Attack Trainer, with 6 hard points from the factory. The USAF utilized them as Close Air Support.
Once again the News media did not do their Homework. and pout out shitty news. Had they said "Modified T-28's that were given to the RVAF being flown by Thai pilots..." OR "AT-28D's being flown by Thai pilots....." the story would have been much more believable.
