With respect to his opinion, i don’t think a Dishonorable Discharge is enough

My thoughts? Well actually nobody in the department of defense nor the sentencing judge asked my opinion but for the sake of discussion
Even if the best case scenario for him is possible he really did see things he thought needed to be addressed by outside leadership and he was simply trying to get to a different post to report what he saw as abuses of power
Actions have consequences like the drunk driver they didn’t candy kill anybody that really doesn’t matter they did
Bergdahl, No Matter why he left his post it directly and indirectly cause injury and death the fellow servicemembers
Directly and indirectly caused issues at the state level
Directly and indirectly caused pain and suffering to the family members who lost soldiers looking for him
Directly or indirectly was responsible for the horrible trade president 44 did to secure his release and all the people that have died because of those really bad prisoners swapped are his responsibility as well.
Add all that up and I see justification for the death penalty

As the death penalty is not an option
dishonorable discharge a lengthy prison sentence loss of all allowances is the least that should happen

Dishonorable discharge life of hard labor and confinement without the possibility for parole.
