Or maybe I'm tired of a dose of political cod liver oil on every damn thing in sight. I think I'll sit a porch, have a cup of coffee, Pet my dog and watch the sunrise.
_Hey!!! How can you relax when their is so much social injustice?
_Hey!!! Is that porch eco-friendly, and made from sustainable materials?
_Hey!!! Do you really need a house that is 1200 Sqft for just two people? Duuuuude take in half a dozen homeless people.
_Hey!!! Is that coffee harvested by an evil conglomerate that is oppressing South American and African Farmers; AND stealing those countries valuable natural resources?
_Hey!!! Isn't owning a dog specie-ism? No life form should ever be owned,
_Hey!!! Is that dog food gluten free? GMO free? Are the lambs that are in the lamb meal free range raised on sustainable organic farms?
_Hey!!! Are those overalls you're wearing are made from cotton picked by child labor in India?
_Hey!!! Did a tree had to die to make that chair in which you sit?
_Hey!!! It's a half a degree different than the 100 year average temperature for September 25. We're going to die
_Hey!!! Is that sunrise only pretty because of the way the light is filtered through all the greenhouse gasses?
_Hey!!! that coffee cup is fired in a kiln that uses fossil fuels. You Suck
_Hey!!! etc. etc. etc.

Genevieve Walters - Try building a business (farmstead consulting) that attracts more than its fair share of social justice warriors as a client base. It's like puppies, they're a lot of fun to watch; but sooner or later they're going to poop on the carpet, eat the couch, or dig up the flower bed. Not so cute then,

Maj John Bell - I can't even imagine. Farming is an incredibly difficult industry to begin with.

Genevieve Walters - Not nearly as difficult as people think. The really, hard part for small farms is marketing. The incredible risks that most farmers and ranchers face is a natural consequence of economies of scale vs. a diversity of crops or livestock.
_A bad year for cherries, may be a great year for pumpkins or melons.
_Pigs don't care if the apples they are eating are cosmetically unattractive due to frost damage. So I save on hog feed what I lose on apple profits.
_Even incredibly damaged and/or inedible parts of a crop are only fit for the compost pile or worm beds, which are both positive revenue streams on my farm.
If all my eggs aren't in one basket... its not quite as simple as the above, but it conveys the idea.
Back to the original point of the whole post --- The inexperienced farmers are doing well in "guerilla" farming practices because they don't have decades of experience that stops them from thinking outside the box in farm practices and marketing practices. Where they cut their throat is many of them can't leave the political message out of the grocery bag. Most people just want to feed their family and friends a good peach or chicken I run my own Community Supported Agriculture (CSA farm) I have clients that drive 15-20 miles past other CSA's specifically because the only thing you get on my farm is food, no social justice, no eco activism.

I am actually looking to participate in a CSA next year. Funny that you mention it. I doubt we are in the same area though, otherwise I would look you up!

Interesting point of view. I think there's people on both sides of this issue that can't see the forest through the trees. Many of us who are grumping about the form these protest take aren't unsympathetic to the issues they bring forward. We are, however, noting that many of the "protests" have been far from peaceful. On top of that, many of the protestors have themselves, categorized whites as a whole as the oppressive regime which comes across to many as hypocritical. If the goal of a protest is to correct an injustice, one should strive to be better than the system they fight; rather than fight fire with fire.
To be clear, the above is in no way reflective of the NFL protests as they are, at least, a peaceful form of protest. As long as the NFL allows them to use the field as their pulpit, they are in their rights to do so. On that note, however, I do feel there are more appropriate ways to voice one's concerns. When people go to watch a game, they are trying to unplug from life for a while. By protesting during the game, people don't get that chance. Instead life invades what was meant to be an escape. To me, it's a matter of being respectful of one's audience. Again, the players are in their right to do this, however, they should keep in mind how they, ultimately, are getting paid when they decide whether or not to do so. Eventually, the audience might choose to seek their escape elsewhere if they can't get it from sports. This could prove detrimental to the NFL's pocketbook and, by extension, the players' pocketbooks.
It's possible to support a cause without supporting the methodology of certain groups within that cause. Sadly, being in that position, many are content to zone in on you as "an enemy to the cause" or some such.
