A lot of folks on social media were upset at the idea of a White Lives Matter - Unite the Right rally at Texas A&M. I was particularly upset not at the theme of the rally since free speech is fine as long as it remains peaceful, but at the insult that it was intentionally planned for the anniversary of 9/11. I've condemned in the past other protests (BLM, National Anthem, etc.) that were also on 9/11. Glad it's cancelled even though it was cancelled for other reasons.

Good! I can't think of a dumber idea for a protest, unless your goal was to create a riot.

I think the theme of the would-have-been rally was disgusting and worthless. Again, freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism of speech.

The fact is, white lives have always mattered. What the alt-right/Nazis/white supremacists are trying to sell is the idea that white lives matter a lot more than other lives.

SGT Rooff- I'll take that argument for $25 Alex. Can White Americans have White Pride or is rhat demes racist?? There is Black Pride, Asian Pride, Gay Pride, but White Pride is labeled as racist.

LTC (Join to see) - The difference is what we see at events. Hispanic pride events highlight Hispanic culture and history, the things they're proud of. Same thing with Black pride, Asian pride, etc.. When someone puts on something promoted as "White pride," it always seems to include swastikas, Klan symbols and expressions of hatred or disdain toward other ethnicities and races. It's never about look at the good things we have done and what we can be proud of. It's about "We're better than them and we want to rule over them." So in answer to your question, I'm sure we could have a White pride event, but it wouldn't look anything like what we see promoted with that name.

white pride would be a wonderful thing to behold. For example, I'm not white, yet I went to the Irish festival a few years back and had a great time. No one tried to harm me or my child. Ppl were nice, the food was good, the weather beautiful. I do believe Irish ppl are white and quite enjoyed celebrating their heritage without burning crosses or spewing hateful rhetoric. The difference being neo-Nazis, KKK, the alt-right and white supremist do not gather to celebrate and love their fellow white man/woman. They gather to spew hatred at other groups be they Jewish, gay, black or liberal. This is a fact. They support symbolisms that are historically known for creating oppression and terror in other groups of ppl too outnumbered and ill-equipped to defend themselves.
So, if you are going to use the argument that other ppl can show their pride, but white ppl can't show theirs, kindly do not leave out pertinent information that shows otherwise.
