You might want to google the cadres of people pardoned at the end of the Obama administration. You will find some truly unworthy people there. Some are back in prison already. Arpaio enforced immigration law and was very hard on criminals, so what. It is his job to enforce the law. He was pursued by Obama's "justice" department for years to try to stop him.

LCpl Arthur Forbes - How about we just create a U.S. ID card and create random checkpoints across the country like the CBP points we already have across CA, AZ, NM, and TX. Everyone gets checked cause Hispanics aren't the only illegals we have in country. In Maine it's Haitian. In Minnesota it's Somalis. In the Midwest, it's Asian. In Florida, their Cuban or Haitian. So yeah lets do that cause illegal immigration is a problem and even I read enough to know it's not limited to the southern border.

MAJ James Woods - Stop and frisk (stop, question and frisk) was a policy in NYC, a liberal bastion of freedom. One of the most diverse cities in the country. You might want to reconsider your example. BTW a policy that made NYC livable again for its residents, black white, Latino, Asian etc. The reduction in crime during Guiliani was demonstrable and made the residents safer and the street walkable again.
So you admit the policy on "profiling" Latino's made sense based upon the illegal aliens being predominantly from south and central America. It wasn't the only criteria used but it was one. I'm not sure why you are so down on Joe. You seem to admit his policy made sense and if it made sense it probably delivered good results.

Cpl Jeff N. - 1. Policy was initiated in NYC while GOP controlled City Hall; and just because NYC is considered a Liberal mecca doesn't mean the policy isn't still argumentatively wrong. 2. Just because you add "question" to the policy doesn't change the face of racial profiling seen in the statistics. 3. A thin line between harassment and actual suspicion of wrong doing. 4. Crime rates continue to drop after the policy ended so it wasn't the sole factor in reducing crime rates.
Finally, it's simple, I don't respect a law enforcement officer who chooses when to follow a law or order from a higher authority and no I didn't say his policy made sense. I said if you're going to attack illegal immigration start stopping everyone since Hispanics are not the only illegals in the U.S. We have some White looking Europeans that are also here illegally too. Why focus on just Southwest America. This is me thinking outside the box and not within the "south of the border" bubble.

LCpl Arthur Forbes - Now you're putting context into your argument and I appreciate that. My issue isn't with those justifiably detained for committing other offenses being checked. It is when you're being randomly stopped because you fit a profile (racial profiling) and are asked for ID. One of the issues was whether under Arpaio's watch, were they justifiably stopping people. The crap happens her in NM and West Texas too.

He's an old man, he did a lot of good. Obama's DOJ prosecuted him while they let their pets off the hook for greater crimes. Yeah, he should be pardoned.

CSM David Heidke - I believe illegal immigration is a problem but I don't believe using racial or ethnic profiling tactics is a solution to anything. Being tough on crime and physical abuse of an individual are not the same thing. He violated the law, he has a punishment to face, let him face it like any other convicted felon then commute his sentence. Yeah it wasn't murder and none of the individuals who found their sentences commuted by Obama's DOJ were convicted of murder either. So let it go.

Sorry Major, that's not how contempt works. He was not found guilty of any abuse or racial profiling. So because he is guilty of contempt doesn't mean he is guilty of the crimes you would like him to be guilty of. He disobeyed a liberal judge, and as such, a liberal Attorney General, and a liberal President decided to make an example of him.

CSM David Heidke - He was accused of using racial profiling in his enforcement policies. He was instructed by a federal court to stop. He chose not to stop. He was held in contempt of that federal order.
So tell me again I don't know how contempt works. He violated a court order that was associated to the accusation of racial profiling. It's not hard. Apparently you feel it is acceptable for a person to disobey a judge when they don't agree with the ruling. Just wow!

Arpaio has been convicted. But no, you don't need a conviction. Nixon was never charged but he was pardoned.

Yes and there are still many critics of Ford who debate the rationale of that to this day.
