Exactly two years later, SP5 Mark Kuzinski, I enlisted on 9 August 1969 in Jacksonville, FL. Although 1LT Frank Bray administered the oath of enlistment, CW4(ret), then SGM Pete Morris was my recruiter and did all the work to "enlist" me into the service. We are friends to this day.

SSG William Jones, if any man sits at the right hand of God, it’s Pete Morris. He was a profoundly religious man. He never cursed (almost impossible in the Army). If you heard him say, “Now daggone it” people cleared a path, because that was as demonstrative as he would get. I never heard him raise his voice to me or any of the other lowly privates waiting to ship out to BCT and all that followed.

Thanks SP5 Mark Kuzinski for reminding us that in early august 1967 the "First Marine Division launches Operation Cochise in the Que Son valley. Meanwhile, the First Cavalry Division continued with Operation Pershing, a major clearing operation in the Binh Dinh province designed to improve the security situation in support of the ongoing pacification effort."
Those two sentences summarize immense death and destruction.
