@PO1 William "Chip" Nagel This is not a good thing. If it is a hoax, that would be bad enough. If it is someone testing the response to a threat in the planning stages of something else, that is worse.

LT Brad McInnis - Me too, and that is a scary thought. Terrorists aren't just using bombs and guns anymore. Though that would be their best bet for attacking a military base. Hampton Roads is full of military bases so if there is an attack on that area in the planning stages, the acronyms (NCIS, FBI, DHS, etc...) better find the perpetrators quickly.

I find it interesting that 3 of the 6 calls went to three different LPD's. Of all the ships in port at any given time, it seems a little unusual (to me) for one type to be the recipient of half the calls. With that narrow a focus, I wonder about an insider threat. There are weird people out there. Students call their schools to get out of a test, employees call their work sites to get out of work, and there have been reported incidents of SM's calling in threats for various reasons. Without knowing the nature of the individual calls, however, it is difficult to speculate much. The fact that they were called "non-credible" doesn't mean anything - there are varying degrees of credibility. That's the general response the media is given for threats when no device is discovered.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - The nuclear industry goes through that occasionally. If someone wants to try to embarrass the plant in their area, they'll make a few calls just before a federal inspection is scheduled - to both distract the preparations and try to give the impression that the plant is a threat to the community. There have also been some when there were union issues, especially when they weren't going well for the unions. Not a sanctioned activity by the inions themselves, but everyone has their nut-jobs with a few loose screws.
