Capt Dwayne Conyers - My colleagues running research programs at medical schools across the united states are having difficulty recruiting graduate students, postdocs, research staff, and even faculty from abroad given overly draconian immigration changes by the administration. Much the same will be said directly to President Trump in near term meetings with senior technology leaders spanning the entire spectrum of applications from microelectronics to large pharmaceuticals. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

MSgt James Mullis - Indeed, this is what background checks are for . . . but in the current environment even if we were to clear all the hurdles . . . we so rife with egregious rhetoric on the part of the administration that even people from western countries with impeccable backgrounds hesitate to make the commitment come here . . . because the rules on admission and readmission to our country can apparently change at any time based on one guy's whim on any particular day . . . so they don't want to come to be refused entry, to have their multiple entry visa seized, to have their green card seized, and/or to be denied permission to visit relatives . . . even dying relatives . . . without adequate notice to apply for advance permission. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)
p.s. This used to be much easier . . . I would just send a Palestinian from my old lab to tell the Marine guard at the back of the embassy that he was a "special case" whereon he would be escorted up to an isolated interview room to see the station chief . . . who would then offer any humanitarian assistance we could render for his people . . . and a visa . . . based solely on the word and/or reference from a former collection management officer.

1LT Sandy Annala - Background checks, borders, and legal immigration only work when you have a country managed by the rule of law. A law that is equally applied to everyone of its citizens, when you ignore or obliviate one law there are repercussions throughout the system. What you are seeing is the direct result of ignoring many, many laws over the past 20 years or so.

That was ostensibly the purpose of forming the Department of Homeland Security, MSgt James Mullis. However, I'm not sure how well run the machinery is.

Some say Beverly Hills is "Tehran west". There used to be an Iranian TV Station (target audience was Iran), run out of Los Angeles.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel In West Los Angeles, the "Persian", aka Iranian community is more than significant, it is overwhelming. Actually, West LA in general, from
Fairfax Blvd is insinuated with all forms of immigrants. I was surprised to even see a "Little Somalia" on Fairfax.
