My question, since I always question the words of others in comparison to the actions I witness, is this:
Why the sudden reversal of tone? While I concede that Mr. Brokaw's message completely. I still question exactly who he is addressing them message to.
Is his intended audience the leftist political officials who have vocally advocated opposing political officials being "lined up and shot"?
Is it the radical community agitators who vocally advocate the boycotting, silencing, radio or media personalities with whom they disagree?
Is it the leaders of groups who vocally advocate and call for the murder of police officers or others, not of a particular race or religion?
Is it the entertainers who overtly portray the murder of a sitting president and call it art or protected speech?
Is it the groups and individuals who find and provide logistical support to anarchists who travel great distances to foment and initiate violence, riots, criminal behavior and destruction of private and public property at political events held by those with whom they disagree in cities across the country?
Is it the politicians of both major political parties in America who have continually used their office as a means of personal enrichment and taken very deliberate steps to insulate themselves from legislation and policies they impose onto the American people?
My God, I could ponder any number of questions for this man regarding exactly who he intended to address. In my own opinion, based solely on what I have seen and witnessed over 50+ years, most people in this country, regardless of political affiliation or status, (Left and Right, as Mr. Brokaw so eloquently pointed out) will do certain predictable things:
They will either use his message to wag fingers of blame at some other group and say "Nyaa Nyaa Nyaa Nyaa Nyaa Nyaa", they will quietly slink off in silence, they will seek to place those with whom they disagree as the intended recipients, or they will seek a means of weaponizing his message, to be used against those they view as political enemies.
So sad that our populace seems to have been reduced to nothing more than an emotional, reactive, illogical mob rather than sentient individuals who engage their intellect before thwir emotions. I know.... I'm jaded....lol
Just my opinion....

The traditional media is in their death throes and they toss Tom Brokaw at us with a very poignant appeal for reason. Reason. Reason like us or you are hateful. Globalism isn't evil? Tell me, just what would a global government look like? It would be a compromise, of course. Just which constitutional principles would you compromise to create a global government? And the web of evil? What makes it evil? Is it the fact that the news media has competition? We would never have seen Hillary's physical ailments but for private citizens videoing her and posting on the Internet the evidence that the news media tried to keep from us. Yes, Brokaw is complaining, just like the boy who is caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He is attempting to deflect our attention from the complicity of his beloved fraternity of journalism in sowing the seeds of hate. Just remember who the aggressors are in this fight. It is those who want to "fundamentally change America". America has changed organically over the decades as the culture has changed. The Constitution didn't institutionalize slavery or the subjugation of women. Those were cultural phenomenon. And the Constitution didn't stand in the way when the culture changed. Thus we can have change for the good without abandoning the Constitution. However, there are those who chaff at the limitations imposed by the Constitution. Some have even spoken openly of their displeasure with it. President Obama and Nancy Pelosi are notable examples. Still, I don't hate them. I hate what they do and stand against it. Last point: It is the Left that wants every one who opposes them to shut up (witness the campus demonstrations and riots staged to shut down meetings and presentations by their opposition). The Right just wants their opposition to keep on speaking. The Left is, after all, its own worst enemy.

CPT Jack Durish Thank you for your comments.
My intended message was not to defend nor decry globalism, nor nationalism; rather, that those general concepts are not in themselves fundamentally evil, nor are their advocates our enemies.
Regarding claims that the traditional media is in their death throws: is that not an exaggeration? Is media and our news sources not evolving, perhaps at an uncomfortable pace, but nonetheless evolving as in the fashion of radio news impacted newspaper readership, television news impacted radio news broadcasts?
Indeed, CNN, Fox News, and the Comcast NBC News umbrella organization had record profits for 2016.
The Washington Post organization, under Jeff Bezos, has boosted its gross income and, assisted by its technology and business models, appears to have reversed its losses (see http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2017/06/13/531099577/at-washington-post-tech-is-increasingly-boosting-financial-performance).

In context, Tom Brokaw's commentary was against Alex Jones' style of "journalism", and in particular the cruel comments he has made about the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary. Alex Jones himself released a rather conciliatory Fathers Day message to the Newtown families yesterday.

“We cannot allow the agents of hate to go unchallenged and become the imprint of our time. We’ll always have our differences of course, but in our finest moments, we’re a Republic that thrives when it recognizes common threats and takes them on. This is a time of common threats requiring uncommon courage. It is a time to step up.”
