MSgt George Cater IMO this article just exposes what we have all known for YEARS. We have been holding equipment together with bubble gum and bailing wire as long as I can remember. We have to start somewhere, sometime- why not here and now? Get the trades back to work, make America great again.

I am not a Navy guy. However, this old Army type thinks that our Navy is ten times as powerful as any on earth and that should be considered. As the U.S. Economy takes off, future budgets are going to be a lot different. We have made the 1st commitment and more will follow.

Ships generally last a long time, but there's a VERY long lead time on new ones. This won't be corrected overnight, or in one budget year. Don't forget, the base of the FY18 budget (and FDY18-22POM) was built last year under Obama with an expectation of a Clinton administration. Only so much could be re-wickered. Look for the FY19 Budget and FY19-23 POM for a true indication of where the Trump Admin wants to go.
