What a great reference (Don't do the crime...) You took me back. For all those who look to Washington, state capitols, and local government to solve anything and everything, they should simply spend a day or two sitting and watching things at the DMV. This is how government works. All those high-minded laws get lost in the myriad of red tape that already exists. We never see the charismatic politicians we elect. Our daily dealings with government occur in the offices of bureaucrats. These are people who get paid (and are well paid) regardless of whether or not they accomplish their assigned missions or duties. Once hired, they can never be fired. Thus, patients at VA hospitals languish on waiting lists without treatment. Defendants languish in jails awaiting adjudication. Etc. Etc. Etc. Folks, as President Reagan said, government is not the answer. It is the problem...

Perhaps, but as we are of the government, we are all responsible for why our government is or isn't the way it is and are accountable for fixing it. Merely saying that the government is the problem isn't enough.

SSG Michael Hartsfield - Please don't take this as an opening to a debate, but We the People are not the government. Government is an institution that we establish to conduct necessary public business and protect us from foreign and domestic threats. The Constitution was established by us to serve as a blueprint for this institution. Sadly, it has outgrown the very limited purposes described in that document. But again, we are not the government. If it is, as I contend, out of control, you are correct. That is our fault. Unfortunately, there are a significant number of people who want big government (to take care of them) and another very significant number who are simply unaware of what should be and what is. Sadly, the combination of them all is why we got into this mess and continue to fall into the abyss.

Ok, stuff like this is just ridiculous...But now is she going to turn around and sue? If so what would be a fair compensation... millions for her pain and suffering? or just a little something to say sorry and help get her life back in order...?

SSG Michael Hartsfield - Oh, I agree 1000%... and I do think she should get something, not just her but anyone in a provable similar situation... but then comes what is both fair and reasonable...?

PO1 Robert Payne - I agree and I am not disputing that... I am asking what is fair? I don't think an award of millions is reasonable, but I do think something is... But she'll get millions of tax payers money and then the city will have to cut services somewhere to make up the shortfall... there are more sides to this that her losing some time and the incompetence of that department.

If it were up to me, I'd award her with ownership to all of the Choctaw County government buildings, including the courthouse and the sheriff's office, so she could kick their asses out for not doing their jobs.

It's bad enough when a clearly guilty criminal doesn't get due process, but in this case, apparently, the evidence was clear that this woman was innocent and, yet, spent 96 days in jail without the opportunity to see a judge. I think she's about to get a big payday.
