Did the Left adopt George Orwell's 1984 as an instruction manual?

A recent discussion on RP inspired me to write this essay. I couldn't in the confines of RP fully explain the Orwellian strategy being employed by those who criticize President Trump for withdrawing from the Paris Treaty on Global Climate change. If the popular view of Global Climate Change were actually supported by science, they wouldn't need to use such totalitarian tactics to advance their cause, now would they?
