Always thought it would be cool if we could link Alaska to the U.S. rail system through Canada as well as build rail South of Guatemala across Central America and into South America for a North South rail system connection. As it is now, rail firms in the United States own a good percentage or control most of Mexico's rail system. We have U.S. Made Mexican locomotives already crossing the border into Texas and pulling as far North as San Angelo, TX (Ferromex) as well as U.S.. Locomotives crossing the border South (Kansas City Southern). Canadian railroads have bought a significant chunk of the U.S. rail system in the Midwest and run across our Northern Border to as far South as New Orleans, LA
