It makes a lot of sense for the Russians to invest in the Taliban, because we spend multi-billions on Afghanistan and Iraq. Money that could have been spent on R&D, Equipping and training forces, and acquisitions.

In the current world order Russia is not a major power. They want to become one and that involves kicking over the apple cart because keeping the current power structures as they are is not going to allow them to become one. The people who will loose if they are successful are the current major powers, i.e. us, China...
