LTC Orlando Illi
They are a special breed and come from one of the five regiments of British Royal Foot Guards:
Grenadier Guards (1656–present)
Coldstream Guards (1650–present)
Scots Guards (1642–1651 and 1661–present)
Irish Guards (1 April 1900 – Present)
Welsh Guards (1915–present)
I attended a series of planning conferences at NATO with a LTC from the Coldstream Guards. His family were officers in that Regiment since the 1700s. He was very proud of the heritage. As members of the U.S. Military such lineage is a foreign concept; but is a real source of pride to anyone who has ever served in a British Guards Regiment.
