President Obama didn't release the detainees, it was some MP Buck Sergeant at the operations desk that stamped the clearing papers and that 2LT that was in charge of the prisoner transport detail that handed the folks off to the reps from the receiving countries. W hy the former detainees that showed up on the battlefield again only did so because they were stigmatized and couldn't find a nice job upon their return.

Obama promised to close Gitmo. It was a hallmark of his original campaign. Over time he released many. Even as late as January 17, 2017, he released them. Give them time. They will return to write his legacy in blood.
