I'm a Silicon Valley liberal, and I traveled across the country to interview 100 Trump supporters...

Thanks for sharing this.....it's helpful to understand, or try to understand, where people are coming from. The only piece I really take exception to was the part about his history indicating that he isn't sexist. Really? The guy who cheated on his first wife with his second.....cheated on his second wife with his third, and cheated on his current wife when she was pregnant, isn't sexist? The guy on tape saying he can do anything he wants with women because he's a celebrity, isn't sexist? Old "grab 'em by the pussy" Trump, who was proud of, and often bragged about his playboy life style, isn't sexist? You can make a case for the other stuff......but there is no room for doubt about how he treats, and his lack of respect, for women. He may, or may not, be able to lead effectively.....that remains to be seen (I have serious doubts), but if there is one thing that he is.......it's sexist.

It says a lot about a guy that lives in such a bubble that people voting for Trump is somehow foreign to him. He must go on a road trip and find these people and ask them why they would do such a thing. It is as if he is getting in a ship and traveling to another planet.
This is part of the problem we have in this country. People like him are so insulated and isolated he has no friends, acquaintances, co-workers, or seemingly anyone in his sphere that he can talk to.
A quote or two from his article on the world he lives in.
"Silicon Valley is incredibly unwelcoming to alternative points of view. Your curiosity, if it is sincere, is the very rare exception to the rule."
"My wife and I recently moved to the Bay Area. I was expecting a place which was a welcoming meritocracy of ideas. Instead, I found a place where everyone constantly watches everyone else for any thought crime."

Here's my question to you: How many people in your life do you still associate with, outside of RP, that you can ask the questions that he did? Aren't you just as guilty of being insulated and listening to only one side of the argument so you don't feel like the people in this interview.
The problem as I see it that there aren't more people like him, people willing to put themselves out there and ask why objectively and with judgement. We all are guilty of hunkering down in our political trenches and keeping a nametape defilade, scared that if we expose ourselves we'll get hit.

SSG Michael Hartsfield - My, my, aren't we presumptuous? I actually have a number of friends/coworkers I talk with regularly about politics and social issues that disagree with me. I enjoy the give and take as do they. We don't usually change each other's minds but we challenge each others thought process and analysis.
The problem is there are too many people like him that live their entire day/week/month/year with no countervailing thought, idea, position etc entering their brain housing group. They live in an echo chamber. They will not even watch Fox News because they are so insulated they do not want another opinion in their ear. Read Breitbart news, heaven forbid.
I watch CNN/MSNBC, NBC regularly. I read many left leaning pubs including the Huffpo, Wapo, the NYT etc. I want to understand the opposition so I can test my logic, world view, thought process etc.

fantastic post.
candid conversations are generally common where I work, even though its a tech campus, and I've heard a lot of the same. you can really feel the victimhood when you speak with people in person.
I've had great conversations where we can agree that money-in-politics is ruining freedom, but then they won't join me in volunteering to work against it because they don't want to be around too many liberals who will offend them. (but then they call liberals snowflakes in their own circles)
