Upcoming Changes To Military Retirement System Explained

Changes are coming to the military retirement system. If you don't know about the changes that are coming in 2018 or need a better explanation of them, the following link is a good source. These changes are "based on a recommendation by the Military Retirement Modernization Commission which conducted a long-term study of the military retirement benefit and made a recommendation to Congress. Their recommendation was included in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2016 and will be effective in 2018."

The Congressional Budget Office says eliminating "concurrent receipt" could save the government $139 billion between 2018 and 2026.

Military service members who retire—either after at least 20 years of military service under the longevity-based retirement program or early because of a disability—are eligible for retirement annuities from the Department of Defense (DoD). They should find something productive for these people to do than screwing up the retirement system. How hard can 50% after 20 be. The additions and subtractions always favor some over others. If they need to take something go after them. Medical care and Dental are things of the past unless you are 0-5 or above
