Since the article still shows an M9, this is the Sig MHS. It's a P320 with manual thumb safety. 4 barrel lengths plus a threaded barrel, 3 grip sizes, 4 calibers. 9mm, 357 Sig, .40 & .45. All interchangeable without tools.

I just wish the military gave the option to either purchase your assigned weapon, think about how much better care soldiers would have for it if it was theirs plus reporting to a new unit your already zeroed and can add all the "fluff" i.e. buttstock/handguard/pistol grip/optics you want. Another option would be allow service members to use their POW's that are chambered correctly so that each shooter is more comfortable with their weapon(s). That's my 2 cents

I would have liked that option when I was active duty. I actually did buy my own Baretta. I also bought an AR-10, which I would have loved to take with me if I ever had to go to a war zone.

SSgt Christopher Brose - it would also have the potential of saving some money for the military, and if you read history, the army started as a bring your own rifle organization

I am pleasantly surprised the Sig won the competition. Glock was the favorite in the trials but they practically give themselves away to law enforcement.
