‘Real America’ is its own bubble

Many right wingers describe the more progressive areas of the country as being in a "liberal bubble." This is actually the opposite from reality: the right wing, rural base of the GOP are the ones in a bubble, while the more progressive, diverse, and educated states are the ones in touch with reality.

A bubble implies that the people inside the bubble do not interact with anyone from outside, hold on to their beliefs despite evidence to the contrary, and hold a view of the world with significant differences from reality.

Case in point: the rural midwest and south voted for a billionaire who travels in a gold plated jet because he "was a man of the people." The right wing loves to bash ig cities as "welfare queens," when in reality, most of the federal funding comes from those cities, while most federal subsidies, welfare, and benefits go to rural red areas.

Meanwhile, citizens in the coastal cities meet people from all over the world, from India to Ireland. They visit other countries, receive an education, and try their best to move the country forward. Many of the residents of these "coastal elite cities" grew up in places like Oklahoma or Arkansas, but were smart enough to move to where the work and educational opportunities were. Compare this to somewhere like Billingsley, Alabama, which is 99 percent white, mostly uneducated, and absolutely isolated from the rest of the country.

Which group of people are in a bubble? The people who interact with citizens from all over the country and all over the world on a daily basis, or the people who refuse to learn a new skillset or receive an education but bitterly cling to the dreams of a dying industry such as Coal Mining while trusting a billionaire who never worked a day in his life to represent them in Washington?
