Too much money to be made in prohibition. Until the government realizes they can make more money taxing and regulations it they will never legalize it.

SFC (Join to see) I would agree with you until you figure in the costs of trial, pre-trial confinement, incarceration, etc... Then the money taken in from prohibition is nothing compared to the cost of enforcement. I agree fully that the money that could be raised from taxation would be incredible. Add to it the cost reductions from no longer needing to fund the previously mentioned items, and the release of those already incarcerated makes it a no brainer to me. I think another part is not just the money made in prohibition, but the fear that goes with releasing those who are incarcerated. There would be a huge cost in expunging criminal records, even if the previously convicted were forced to pay the fee. It would also take them and put them into the work force. Nobody wants to see the unemployment numbers (which are not real anyway) sky rocket due to the release of no longer criminals. a mess. A huge ugly mess.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - As the government likes to say "Different colors of money". The DEA is funded by prohibition. The costs to the DOJ are irrelevant to them and both are funded by tax dollars, which the congress will give them more of because "they have to do it for the children". They aren't measuring cost. They are measuring their budget. Those two things are exclusive when the bean counters are counting their beans.

Wholly disagree. What is a major side effect of marijuana? I have seen it as advertised as a treatment for PTSD, yet one of the side effects is paranoia. Does that sound like a good thing? How about may cause male erectile dysfunction? Still want to light up?
