I read your article, it seems questionable that people who are perfectly healthy would have body mapping issues and not doing it for sympathy. I am hearing impaired from working around F-18 engines and wish I could hear what others say. It's embarrassing to answer a question I couldn't hear in the first place. Why would anyone want to be voluntarily deaf?

sounds like some Sado-masochistic hoopla. If they are intentionally hurting themselves, they need help.
