They can pass all the laws they want, criminals will find ways around them.

LCDR (Join to see) - No it really isn't. Passing laws to mandate behavior is the basis for a sovereign culture, as opposed to anarchy. Pass laws you have 2 choices obey or disobey. Disobey, ideally leads to punishment. Because laws are broken does not mean laws are uselessly being passed generally.

Laws are passed based on the desire of the public to affect a certain behavior. Saying, "That law shouldn't be passed because criminals won't obey it," is absurd. Murder is illegal, but people murder. Theft is illegal, but thieves exist. Most drugs are illegal, but we have an opioid epidemic. The logic doesn't hold up.

Last weekend in Chicago there were 73 casualties - 12 KIA - from gun violence. Chicago and New York have extremely strict prohibitions on private gun ownership. As noted below in this thread, criminals don't abide by laws, and there are almost always neighboring communities where guns can be found legally for sale. So, do we trust our law-abiding fellow citizens and allow them to defend themselves? Or does the Congress continue to argue futilely about efforts to disarm the entire country?

Knee-jerk reaction by politicians by state and local authorities who have no clue. Putting up a sign saying gun-free zone doesn't stop anyone from killing people at a theater watching Batman.

Whether you are pro or anti gun, Republican or Democrat, compare Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, or even little El Paso to Chicago and it says a lot. Cartel violence is just over the border and if we have three shootings in a weekend here in El Paso it is big news. Look at Russian mafia in Europe or laws here, stricter laws does not equal a better life.

What I think I hear you saying is that an armed society is a more polite society. Almost all of my friends at work have concealed carry permits. Of course that doesn't apply on a military base. But on-base, we also have armed MPs and Air Police protecting us.
