Donald F. Burroughs Military Funeral Honors

RP Members and Connections I've been in Illinois for the past (9) days making arrangements and burying my Father (Donald F. Burroughs) who was a Korean War Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient! I wanted to share his military funeral honors with you all. We lost another Veteran, Brother-in-Arms, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend to many. I will miss him!
Don F. Burroughs, 85, of Washington passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 4:16 p.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Don was born on May 12, 1931, in Spokane, WA, to Lester H. and Inez I. Schrap Burroughs. He married Wanda Certalic on February 6, 1954, in Washington, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Burroughs of Washington, IL; two sons, Mikel J. (Bella) Burroughs of Castle Rock, CO, and Gary L. (Carla) Burroughs of Longmont, CO; five grandchildren, Cameron, Kattie, Spencer (Megan), Madalyn and Lauren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Ronald E. Burroughs (Retired Air Force) in 1998; and his older brother, Robert W. Burroughs (WWII Veteran).
Don worked for Caterpillar in East Peoria as a special repairman for 34 years, retiring in 1980. Following his retirement, he and Wanda owned and operated Wrenhouses, a woodworking business. They enjoyed crafting together for many years.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He became a member of Washington United Methodist Church years ago. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling with the senior league at Plaza Lanes every week.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association .
A funeral service for Don will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton, where full U.S. Army military honors will be rendered.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - What a unselfish thing to do. I had some people question all the time I spent with my mother just before she passed. I told them, she took care of me for many years, it was the least I could do to spend time with her in her final hours.

COL Mikel Burroughs, condolences on the loss of your father. Not one thing can be used to dampen the loss of a loved one; A quote may perhaps sum up the importance of your father and his everlasting effect on you: "My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it."

Thank you for sharing your father and his life with us. I wish I could return the favor (and you know why I can't). It's fitting, isn't it, that such a funeral occur under overcast skies as heaven weeps with you...

It seems many great men are lost under stormy/overcast skies, my great grandfather for one was lost on July 3rd a couple years ago which I will always remember as one of the worst storms I've experienced short of a tornado.
