When I was active the tape test was the most effective and efficient in terms of cost to determine who was obese as opposed to who was just heavy because they were very muscular SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I personally would be very skeptical about details released by OSD about health statistics about the various military services.

Marines have issues with the BMI from the beginning... ya take some 5'10" guy with 48" thighs, 36" biceps no discernable neck that weighs 250 & can bench press the New Jersey (state or ship... you choose) his BMI SAYS HE's obese... SMH! Are YOU gonna tell him he needs remedial PT? Tell me when... i wanna watch!
