Just very interesting. I know we used Toyotas in Iraq for transport around bases. And they are a common site to see off base.
The Libyans had to fight against the Chadian National Armed Forces, composed of 10,000 soldiers. You’ve heard that right - no aircraft, no helicopters, no tanks, nada! Chad’s only hope to drive the Libyans out of Aouzou was represented by 10,000 soldiers with limited anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons and no means of transportation.
At the beginning of 1987, though, the tides of war were about to turn. As a former overseas territory of France, the French Air Force helped Chad by providing its 10,000-strong army with around 400 Toyota pickups.

Great story. In Vietnam, Citreon's were a common sight racing up and down the clay roads. But a Toyota pickup can be really tough. The "boyz" on Top Gear (BBC) did everything they could to destroy one and failed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnWKz7Cthkk

Sir, don't forget SOF has used them, also especially Land Cruiser, Our task Force had tons of them all up-armored, and I fell in love with'm. I had to sign for all the ones in on our JTF $ 150,000 K each . We used these in all our site visits all around Baghdad and Al Ambar. Then my next deployment a year later, I was attached to JOSOTF-A AFG, and yes the SOF guy's had tons of them. Just saying when in bad guy country, and you have to roll low profile you use what they use.
