For some reason the "V" in Vince is not displayed but my mind instantly recognized that it should read Vince Lombardi wisely quipped, “The man on top of the mountain didn’t fall there” SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
Financial and power success can happen suddenly through familial relationships and via military coups respectively.
I concur with the premise of this article that leadership is marked by progress in acquiring knowledge, gaining experience, and engaging in ways that specifically relate to leadership in the environment you are. I agree that deliberate steps to acquire knowledge and to a lesser extent and engaging in ways that specifically relate to leadership are wise steps. However gaining experience is not usually a deliberate task unless you are at the top of the leadership pyramid. Those lower down are assigned based on the needs of the organization and they will gain experience within those assignments which were deliberately selected for them.
