Not all Veteran Affairs clinics are created equal for many good reasons SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. 1st each and every veteran is unique; (2) Not all diseases and injuries are equal; (3) some symptoms are permanent with little to no hope of recovery while others are treatable with significant hope; (4) inpatient clinics require more care and attention than outpatient clinics; and (5) each and every emergency room case is unique.

I wouldn't be so sure on point #4. I've heard stories of vets having appointments cancelled, and was put in the system as the vet cancelling it yet the vet claims the VA cancelled it and was saying the vet did it.

if that ever happens and anyone is aware of it just like you said Patient Advocate, every single hospital has a few of them. If you are dealing with an outpatient clinic, and they try to tell you call a patient Advocate , that bull crap, ask for the Clinic Director!
Also, and this is a HUGE one...if you EVER get an appointment in the VA that has been just sent to you, or given to you WITHOUT you on the phone or in person to make that appointment, then THAT IS A NO GO!!!!
A VA scheduler is NEVER allowed to schedule an appointment FOR a Veteran UNLESS they are SPEAKING to that Veteran and have asked them WHEN WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE SEEN??....Yeap this is fact, remember that's where I work! This is the VA Healthcare side of things, FYI. Our job is to do our best to get your appointment when you WANT to be seen. Now please do not walk in to your clinic tomorrow demanding an appointment on Wednesday of next week and expect to get it. if its available of course you will get it. But reality is, thats going to depend on your local or nearest clinics availability and staffing. So if you want a Wednesday of next week, were going to do our best to give you that, or as close to that as possible.
If you are having appointments mailed to you or given to you without YOU having input on it then No No No. Speak to that Clinic Director or that MSA Supervisor. if you're stuck or unsure, call me [login to see] . That's direct to my desk, I'll find the number for you to call.
There is ALWAYS more than one person in the VA that will step up and help you no matter what. It is your right to ask for that person!!
