My question is why is it re-enacted in the first place? What is the core motivation? If it is to understand the emotions and feelings of that time then yeah...maybe we should not stop it. We still get involved with MLK marches to commemorate peaceful protect marches and to remember what he started. We have so many traditions and days and weeks that we practice whatever...to remember. So I guess the answer is no. We have to remember...least we forget the lessons....and will repeat it all over again.

I personally participate in living history to gain a better understanding of the lives of soldiers who live in my region. We recreate the language and culture of those fought in the French and Indian War (1754 - 1763) It is almost like time travel in some regards.

LTC Greg Henning - Sir, SSG has his opinion but his feelings are not like the stupid, fanatic, Walter-Mitty Quebeces that threaten violence if the Battle of the Plains of Abraham are re-enacted on location. Some people are just historians. The rascism and slave ownership was, as we know, the main economic reason the Confederacy was using slave labor just like Nazi Germany did in their V-2 Rocket and other war industries. It was wrong and criminal but that does not justify not having the battles done by enthusiasts.
At least in America you can re-enact a Battle but in Quebec its white trash threatening violence.

The abandonment of Civil War re-enactments would create a disservice for the public of a very important piece of American history.
