The American experience in Vietnam was a long and painful one for the nation.
For those against the war, it appeared to be a meat grinder for draftees, unfairly targeting the poor, the uneducated, and minorities.
For those in favor of the war and those who served in the military at the time, the American public and media were (and still are) misled about what happened during the war and so feel betrayed by many at home (Jane Fonda is the enduring symbol of the cultural schism).
The facts not in dispute by either side are just as harrowing: Over 20 years, more than 58,000 Americans were killed in Vietnam and more than 150,000 wounded, not to mention the emotional toll the war took on American culture.

Here's a fact that many are not aware of :
The first Marines in the Vietnam buildup were 42 men of the 1st Radio FMF at Pleiku on 01.02.1962.. The Company grew to 1st Radio Battalion a few years later in Vietnam

In January, 1962, 42 Marines from the 1st Composite Radio Company, FMF, designated Sub-Unit #1, 1st Composite Radio Company, were the first U.S. Marines to participate in the ongoing build-up which was to become the Vietnam war. This unit was to evolve, becoming the 1st Radio Battalion. Our mission was to gather information about the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army through radio intercept and radio direction finding operations and use that knowledge for both offensive and defensive fighting purposes.

Although I do not agree with all of this info, it was an interesting article. There is a great difference between living it, and reporting it from statistics and after the fact analysis. There is always that inescapable, personal, human component that can in no way be quantified.

Number 6 on the list is spot on the M16 we were issued in 1966 was in fact a worthless piece of crap and the blame should be put on the people who with no understanding on how to equip a Military in time of war is criminal there I've got that off my chest yet again,thanks Mr. Stoner for nothing,and to think this so called weapon started out life as a survival rifle for downed pilots,I bet the small game it was suppost to kill would have died of old age,that's really my last shot until somebody defends it and they will.
