Thanks for sharing the link to a "Non-Profit called Carry Me Productions that is working hard on trying to provide housing for homeless veterans COL Mikel J. Burroughs
One of my sons worked with Habitat for Humanity for a couple years. They use sweat equity to engage future homeowners so that they will have equity in the house that his being built.
I think this concept could easily be applied to veterans desiring housing - most would probably love to work to help the house being built in any way they could.

no other nonprofits were interested in helping us with our housing program. One would think this type of program would be something they would jump to, but nope. Only if there were benefits to their organization. The housing program has since evaporated. :(

(Anonymous) - Yes it is...there are 100s of 1000s of empty homes and I made the connection with the banks to get these homes at a discount. Unfortunately, large nonprofits only saw $$ rather than a long term solution to help our veterans out of poverty and homelessness. Once our veterans were housed, the pay what you can model would be introduced and the POC validated. I'm not giving up on the housing plan, it's just not going to happen right now. :) Right now I'm focusing putting the money back in to the community to help the veterans who are lost in the system and advocating for their safety. http://www.carrymeproductions.org/success-forward-family/

Homeless veterans and children need consistent help, step-by-step, to recover from their life on the streets, and need support to have the chance to return to a career and a comfortable home.

COL Mikel Burroughs, Thank you for sharing. Carry Me Productions is a public charity working to acquire REO homes to provide affordable housing for veterans. Owned by banks and the government, there are millions of these vacant homes across the nation. Connecting veterans with needed services is part of Operation Homes for Heroes. http://www.carrymeproductions.org/ohfh/
Recently, I read that Habitat for Humanity is now focusing on rehabbing homes that are currently owned and in need of repairs.

While large nonprofits make “the news”, doing the same things they have always done, we have chosen to take a different approach. One that has yet to be done, and our hope is that other nonprofit organizations will replicate it to help others.

Now this is the kind of opportunity for RallyPoint to be extremely useful, getting out the word about organizations such as this. I'm going to share this link on social media - Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Reddit, and more, even my blog - and hope that everyone else does the same.
