Long confined to the speculative pages of science fiction novels, railguns use electromagnets to propel hardened projectiles at 4,500 miles an hour, and can destroy heavily armored targets at a range of up to 125 miles. Wonder what the accuracy of these guys will be? Probably so fast that earths rotation does not affect flight to target. Semper Fi.

Great post, MGySgt James Forward. Living in the DC area, its been fun to watch the development of the rail gun. Kinetic weapons such as these will change the face of warfare. Here's hoping a good cyber guy/gal is in place making sure the guidance system is properly protected!!

Alan K. , railguns have been in Science Fiction books since at least the late 1950's - if not earlier, definitely before that bad movie Arnold starred in you mentioned. What I'm waiting for though to become reality are the power guns and hover tanks in the author David Drakes 'Hammer's Slammers' books, or better yet the tanks and weapons from author Keith Laumer's 'Bolo' series.
