SP5 Mark Kuzinski my father and his brother's first cousin Frankie Evans was killed in that battle and earned a Bronze Star. I am Randy Heddy, a retired South Carolina State Trooper and Desert Storm Air Force Veteran, My Uncle was in the Big Red 1 that came through after the battle and had to escort Frankie home. I am trying to find out what actually happened to Frankie for a family history book so if you know anything to help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your service Sir.

My father has the same problem of finding his records after the so called "Big Fire" they had housing military records. He was stationed in Guam with the B-52 squad rant there during the war. My uncle will not talk about his time in the war which I totally understand, thanks for anything you can come up with. God bless you and all the other Vietnam Veterans for your dedication and service.

If it helps here is some of the information I have found, Attack on Husky Compound - 5/18/1969. At 1:00am on 5/18/1969 elements of the U.S. Army 54th Artillery Group at Husky Compound, a defensive position one mile east of Xuan Loc, Long Khanh Province, RVN, came under under assault. The perimeter was compromised but was driven out by artillerymen. It was identified to be the NVC 5th Division, helicopter gunships, tactical air support with AC-47 gunship cover was provided. An element of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in tanks and armored personnel carriers moved in to engage the force. The fighting continued until 6:00am. U.S. casualties were 14 killed 39 wounded. My second cousin Henry F. (Frankie) Evans was one of those killed. If anyone or anything can be found who knew of him and his demise would be appreciated. He was a part of the 2nd Battalion, 35th Artillery, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery. Again thanks for your help.

Do you know what's the last name of the Frankie you are looking for? My father's nickname is Frankie, and he was at Camp Husky that night (or at dawn I should say) when they were attacked.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski Thanks for keeping me in the Know there Mark - almost sounds like the war in the Middle East after 15 years of War - they just kept coming back - they were persistent, knew when to cut their losses, get out of dodge, regroup and come back again. Have we learned anything from previous wars! How do you get to the end state the enemy is defeated in today's Middle East Campaign? Sorry got off the great historical topic, but was trying to draw some comparisons! Your thoughts Mark?

Good evening COL Mikel J. Burroughs - I'm going to have to get back to you on that. I'm a bit pressed for time as I'm packing to meet up with my son and Caddie for him this weekend.
Real quick - there a some comparisons and then there are also very many differences between the two wars. The biggest difference as I see our "War on Terror" is that it's not going away anytime soon. Just take a look at first the VC and then look at ISIS and similar groups in the Mid-East - The two are completely different and we could write a book on it.
Again, I would love to talk to you on this subject and others over a nice cold beer. Thank you and have a great weekend.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski Understood - there are some similarities and big differences. Maybe someday we can have a long discussion on it - you never know!
